Option A: OEM RestorationBest Fuel MPG
4.10 : 1

Exact mathematical match: 4.08. Installing 4.10 gears restores factory acceleration and daily driving feel.

Recommended for:
• Daily commuters and highway driving
• Stock vehicle weight (no heavy steel armor)
• Maintaining original factory MPG balance
Option B: Heavy 4x4 / Overland⭐ Community Favorite
4.56 : 1

Provides +8% to +12% mechanical advantage over stock. Effortless hill climbing and rock crawling torque.

Recommended for:
• Heavy rigs (winch, steel bumpers, tent)
• Towing travel trailers or boats
• Mountain passes & technical off-road trails

🚨 Critical Rule for 4WD Vehicles

If your truck or SUV has 4-Wheel Drive (4WD / 4x4), you MUST re-gear BOTH the front and rear differentials with the exact same ratio. Engaging 4WD with mismatched front and rear gears will bind the driveline and instantly destroy the transfer case.

🌡️ Why Big Tires Kill Automatic Transmissions

When oversized tires drop your RPMs too low, your engine struggles to pull in top gear. The automatic transmission is forced to slip continuously to keep moving, which generates intense internal friction and cooks your transmission fluid. Re-gearing keeps your engine in its natural power band and allows the transmission to run cool and shift smoothly.

📟 Speedometer & Shift Point Calibration

After installing larger tires or changing ring & pinion gears, your ECU's speed sensor will read wrong, causing late shifts, erratic ABS, and speedometer errors. Always use an OBD2 tuner/calibrator (e.g., Hypertech, Superchips, or Forscan) to update your tire diameter and axle ratio in the truck computer.

💰 Real-World Re-Gear Cost Expectation

In the US, expect to pay between $1,600 and $2,400 total for parts and professional labor for both axles. Ring and pinion gears cost ~$250-$350 per axle, master install bearing kits cost ~$150-$200, and experienced differential gear setup labor runs ~$500-$800 per axle.
